John Carruth

2016

John presently serves as Committee Member of Pack, Troop, and Crew 730 in El Camino Real District, and is the Eleven-Year-Old's Scout Leader. Previously, he served as Committee Chair and Charter Organization Representative of the same units, Scoutmaster of the Troop, Advisor of the Crew, and on the District Committee. He has been District Chair for Scouting for Food for a long, long time. Really long.

He is a Merit Badge Counselor and has taught First Aid so many times that he was made an MD. He enjoys leading his Scouts in camping and backpacking treks in the local parks and the Sierras. With them he has enjoyed the essential experiences of cold, rain, fatigue, sleepless nights, mischievous animals, and misbehaving neighbor campers, all of which they will remember for life. He regales them with his youthful tales at Camp Chawanakee when he was a member of Troop 29 in Sequoia Council. Separately, he also enjoys backpacking and camping with his three sons and two daughters. The daughters will even backpack with him in the rain. He completed Wood Badge training in 2008 and was presented with the District Award of Merit in 2013.

John earned the Eagle Rank in 1968. He lives in Laguna Niguel with his wife Patricia. Their sons Paul, Mark, and Philip all obtained Eagle Scout rank. Their two daughters are Sara and Kaitlin.
