Derek Knobel

Derek was recently named District Commissioner for El Camino Real District, and serves as the Unit Commissioner for Troop 724, and Packs 705, 1850, and 794. Previously he held the positions of Scoutmaster of Troop 724, Cubmaster of Pack 326, and Webelos Den Leader/Charter Rep for Pack 3804 in Ventura County. In 2005, he was the co leader of a canoe trek to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota.

Derek is very active on the District Committee helping with Camporees and Camporalls. He and his wife, Sawsan, were instrumental in rebuilding Pack 705, and starting two Hispanic Packs. As a youth, Derek was a Scout in Hawaii, earning the Eagle Scout rank as a member of Troop 6. Derek has received the Extra Mile Award several times, earned the District Award of Merit in 2009, was named ECR Commissioner of the Year in 2010.

Outside of Scouting, Derek is a member of the committee that sponsors the annual Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo, is the editor of the Avocado Society Yearbook, and a member of the San Juan Capistrano Historical Society. Derek lives in San Juan Capistrano, with his wife Sawsan. They have an adult son Martin, an Eagle Scout, and an adult daughter Sydney.
